method6 records
One often finds in records calling themselves IDM that the left brain has taken sole responsibility for the music, and the right brain has stayed at home to work on the cover art. Portland's Gasp (Brian McCauley) is that rare breed of laptop experimentalist who manages to effectively set both hemispheres to the task. From the cold electro choreography of Theme from Rotanrevog to the clean bass guitar and piano lyricism of That Never Came, one is struck by both the technical proficiency and the emotional sincerity of the project. Incidentally, the cover art is pretty sweet too (art: Kelly Porter, design: Daniel Bissell).
