The memekast (meem · kast) is a monthly podcast brought to you by MK2 and
dj_SpaceInvader.
Subscribe for free using iTunes or another RSS-enabled audio system and we'll plant a new episode in your
music library every month. Each episode features a 30 minute exclusive dj mix or live set from
a dj or artist we think you need to hear. Show notes are posted on this website, with track lists
and more information about our guests.
iTunes: to subscribe using iTunes, click the iTunes link (or
here), and
iTunes should automatically open to the memekast page at the iTunes music store (your browser may
ask you to approve this action); from there, click the subscribe button, and you're in.
Other Applications: Click on the RSS link at the top of the page (or
here),
then choose your application from the list on the right.
You can also download individual episodes, but this will not enable your subscription,
and you will need to check back here to download new episodes. Where's the fun in that?
After a short break (you thought you were rid of us), we’re back with resident selector Niles. Once again he unleashes the fury, utilizing state of the art precision-guided rhythms and devastating low frequency pulse technology. When you’re ready for some more, check out his personnel file for more sets, including previous Memekast transmissions and a new live set from Connectivate.
You can also catch Niles at the 8th anniversary of Stilldream, a 3-day campout starting June 13, also featuring Dylan Rhymes, BLVD w/ Souleye, Forest Green, ESKMO, Hypnotech, Audiovoid… actually this lineup is ridiculous.
You may have noticed our transmission was hijacked today… Actually we’ve been nagging San Mateo’s Audio1 to put out a new episode of his Pop That Trunk podcast for a while now. But I guess with two club residencies, four net radio shows (two live and two podcasts), and always a party somewhere to be rocked, the man’s been keeping pretty busy.
A veteran of the Bay Area scene, Audio1 got his start in the mid-nineties, establishing himself as one of the nastiest jungle DJ’s on the West Coast with a hands-on style inherited from his roots in hip-hop. His sound has continued to diversify, and these days you can catch him banging out all styles of hip-hop, breaks, funk, and more. One of his many projects is Pop That Trunk, a Hyphy-centric mixtape podcast he started in 2006. Recently he has been shifting his attention to the more diverse Rhymes and Beats podcast (which you should also bookmark immediately). But djspaceinvader wouldn’t leave him the hell alone about doing another Pop That Trunk episode…
I guess he figured if we want it that bad, maybe we should broadcast it. So here it is, a special Pop That Trunk edition of the Memekast - The Definition of Hyphy, courtesy of Audio1!

As the Memekast resumes broadcasting from the GhettoBox, we brought in Bay Area dubstep champion and Argon label-founder Nick Argon. Started in 1999, the first few releases on Argon Records were drum & bass tunes primarily from San Diego’s Stratus and Static of Australia, with appearances by Profound Noize, Gridlok, and others. With the release of Matty G’s For the Smokers / Bitter Love 12″ in 2006, Argon announced the beginning of a new chapter, focused on the slower, grimier sounds of dubstep.
These days Argon is fast establishing itself as a global leader in dubstep science, with a steady stream of massive releases from artists like SF bad men Matty G and Babylon System, Skynet (whom you may remember from releases alongside Skynet on d&b labels like Renegade Hardware and Moving Shadow), and Finnish rising star Tes La Rok.
For this episode, Nick brings the fiyah with 15 big tunes, including some upcoming Argon releases.

Brought to you by (you guessed it) Argon, the event will also feature 12th Planet (LA), Matty G, Babylon System and Nick Argon. (Facebook event link, Club Six website).
We’re back with a very special Valentine’s Day gift for all of you. I know it might seem odd for me to wax romantic, but I recently discovered an entity that I think I feel genuine affection for. I know how much MK2 loves all of you, so I wanted to share this feeling.
I tracked down San Francisco’s MurdaSloth and I think he may even feel the same. Isn’t it lovely? For our 30th episode, he presents a selection of original compositions and remixes that I think truly embody the spirit of the occasion.
Representing Digital Vomit Records and Rhythms of Torture, this mutant megatherium churns out nihilistic sludgecore and murderous doomstep that will warm your heart and vibrate your entrails. Adorable!
I don’t know if y’all heard about this psyphy movement we got goin’ on out here in tha Bay? Well we got a heavy-handed pimp slapper for you this week to help you get familiar, courtesy of SF’s EPROM. It’ll make ya psyphy. It’ll make ya stunt. Might make ya lose your face, nuthin left but gold fronts.
Then it’ll slap them fake-ass shits out too. BAP!
Representing Nexus and Addictech, EPROM has been slinging his jacked up brand of bottom-heavy neurocrunk alongside such notorious characters as the Glitch Mob, Tipper, Bassnectar, and Z-Trip. From absolutely destroying at the Nexus Maze Party in Half Moon Bay, to laying waste at Zero Ground (SF’s landmark Regency Center), he’s been hitting the scene hard and establishing himself as a serious threat to sound systems and earholes. The title track from his new EP 64 Bytes was featured on the insert CD for XLR8R magazine’s “Best of 2007″ issue in December. Recent collaborations include SQSH (with Boreta) and Hookerz & Blow (with Mozaic).
For our 29th program, EPROM comes fucka janky with four originals, a Madlib remix, and some Boreta collab action. You know you want it. When he’s done, and you want more, cop the 64 Bytes EP over at Addictech.

You can catch EPROM this Friday, February 8 at Raindance’s 9th annual Chinese New Year party at 1015 Folsom in SF, along with the Glitch Mob, Loefah, Switch, Evinrude, Mozaic, and a crapload of others.
For our first episode of 2008 we bring you a RAGER from San Francisco’s Evinrude (Stimulus, Netamp). One of the Bay’s few remaining all-vinyl DJ’s, he’s been a functioning vinyl junky for about a decade, selling his drums for the stuff shortly after getting hooked.
He started making himself known in the Bay Area around 2000, slinging a special recipe of hard trance, acid, energy, and breaks under the moniker Darth. A few years later he joined forces with Dirt and Nugz to start breaks weekly Broke-Ass, and launched a monthly at the now-defunct @lpha Bar called Smoke Breaks. He also briefly ran a weekly called Crooked at Nickie’s on Haight Street, which was interrupted by the gentrification of that venue. (more…)
For our final episode of 2007, we pick up where Genji left off last month; with Sacramento’s Resynthesize! Nah, we didn’t plan it - we’re just tapped in like that.
A founding member of the Escape Artists crew (along with Rhedcerulean, Phokus, Psylence, and recent memekast guest SeventhSwami), Resynthesize currently has two LPs and one remix album under his belt. His debut LP, Heart and Soul Direct, was released on Experimedia in 2006, with a remix collection appearing on the same label in 2007. His latest LP release is entitled Handprints, and is available from Addictech.
For the memekast he concocts a psychedelic blend of breaks, electro, and dubstep, all original productions and remixes. Keep an eye out for his forthcoming EP, The Green Wall, due to drop in January.
This episode we bring you a set from Genji (Syatic Media, Loud Ass Bastards, Word of Mouth). Originally hailing from Atlanta, Genji has been making music since 1990, and DJing since 2000. In 2002 he bounced to SoCal and then up to the Bay, making appearances alongside RAW, Infiltrada, Mr. Projectile, Boreta, RD, and many others. Current projects include collaborations with Pusher (as Toeknuckle), Audiovoid (as Exact Change), Beytah, Dirt, and more.
For episode 26 he lays down a deep, churning morass of glitched out dubstep and whompy electrostep…

We’re back with a very special episode from Bay Area composer Ganucheau.
A New Orleans native, Matt Ganucheau has been performing electronic music for over 8 years. In 2004 he graduated from the Berklee College of Music with degrees in Film Scoring and Music Synthesis. Since relocating to the Bay to pursue a career in sound design and composition, he has completed three short film scores, a full featured game score, and has had several pieces appear on international compilations. He currently teaches sound design for video games at the Expression College for Digital Arts.
He will be appearing with mk2 resident selector Niles at False Profit’s Equity on Wednesday, November 14.
For mk025 he presents selections from his upcoming EP…
In this memekast I hope to take you through the life of a playground in a single day. To do this, I compiled field recordings from playgrounds throughout Italy. I then used these recordings as a base for composition. The end result is a composition in four parts, each representing a different time of day. I hope you enjoy.
—Ganucheau

Variations on a Playground
A composition in four parts. Featuring Nathan Blaz on cello.
For our first broadcast from our new space (yeah, we moved again), we bring a custom selection from SF Bay Area dj/producer Cumulus (Word of Mouth, Loud Ass Bastards, Syatic Media). Our guest originally hails from Santa Barbara, where he helped run JustUs Productions and their flagship Synaesthesia series, and spent summers throwing full moon parties with Word of Mouth. During this time he developed a reputation for deep, dark, heavy sounds and long, detailed mixes. Playing mostly drum & bass under the moniker Sam I Am*, he also made appearances in Los Angeles, alongside veteran selectors like Dj Dara, Infiltrata, and Reid Speed. (more…)
